Watch Winder Settings by Model: TPD Database

Watch Winder Settings by Model: TPD Database

Every automatic watch has a mainspring that needs regular motion to stay wound. A watch winder replicates the natural movement of your wrist, keeping your timepiece running and ready to wear. But not all watches need the same amount of rotation — and that's where TPD comes in.

What Is TPD?

TPD stands for turns per day — the number of full rotations a watch winder makes in 24 hours to keep a specific watch fully wound. Set it too low and your watch runs down; set it too high and you're simply wasting energy (modern watches have a slipping mainspring that prevents overwinding, so there's no risk of damage — but accuracy still matters for keeping things running smoothly).

Most automatic watches need between 650 and 1,800 turns per day. The exact figure depends on the calibre inside your watch, and it varies even between models from the same brand. Winding direction matters too: some movements wind clockwise, some counter-clockwise, and many wind in both directions.
